Plants for Birds
Birds do not know borders. Migratory birds traveling throughout our state have always needed food, shelter and water. But as climate change and habitat loss threaten important breeding grounds and stopover points, the task of finding these life supporting habitats is increasingly difficult and endangers their survival. A key element for helping these birds can be located right in your back yard! You can provide a safe haven for these birds with simple changes to your yard starting with native plants.
Audubon's Plants for Birds program provides you with informational tools about native plants in your region that serve as hosts for birds in your garden, backyard, or balcony. Birds and other wildlife are not the only beneficiaries of native plants. Because these plants don't need artificial fertilizers or pesticides and generally require less upkeep, they save time, water and money.
Wherever you live you can help birds with native plants. Visit Audubon’s plant database to get a customized list of plants in your area. Simply type in your zip code for a customized plant list. Small changes in personal actions make a big difference in conservation.Plan Your Visit
